Trying to grow your own fruits and vegetables doesn’t have to be as hard as many people claim. Building your own grow room is the first step in achieving this goal. The build process will go by much easier if you design the system first. The biggest mistake you can make is to start building your indoor garden before knowing the requirements. What will end up happening is that you will have a room which will not work properly or worse yet, will not be able to produce the quality you are after.
The design process is important yet easy. There is no manual labor involved. The most important part is to ask a lot of questions and fully understand the goals you are after. The more information you have, the easier it will be to build the system which will work to your favor. I always start with my budget and space requirements.

In the past I have always grown annuals, I simply bought them from the garden center every spring, put them out, let them do their job and removed them before they set seed everywhere. However this has become quite costly; as the seeds of many plants do not run true I can’t just let the annuals go to seed and let them do their own thing; this haphazard approach also makes for a messy garden. I have therefore decided that I will grow some perennials.
The problem with perennials is that they take a bit more looking after, some need cutting back and regular feeding etc. I have decided that I will try some Aethionema as this will add some pink to the garden every spring, and is quite short lived so if I get bored of the Aethionema I can simply remove it and put a another species in its place.
